RE: Ford 6.0 Exhaust Brake??

I don't think you'll need an exhaust brake if you'll use the Tow/Haul mode and let the system maintain your speed. Mine can get so slow that I have to use the accelerator to speed up going down the 6% and 8% grades in the area where I live and drive.

RE: EU3000 while driving

Could be the oil sensor also. Mine will cut out if it's not relatively level. The oil could be moving away from the sensor on curves, etc and the sensor will cut the unit off.

RE: 2009 Copper Canyon

We don't have the specific model mentioned but we've been extremely pleased with our Copper Canyon 5er. Layout, comfort, quality, and lack of problems have exceeded our expectations. Would buy another unit in the future. Only reservation was Chinese tires (Mission)based on forums comments/problems that I replaced with Michelin XPS/RIBs.

RE: Plug it right Stabalizers

I installed a set of 6 on my Copper Canyon. They work great and stop nearly all of the shake we were experiencing. The PIR folks are great and I've had no quality problems with the stabilizers.

RE: Water or No Water

I fill up and carry the extra weight, even if we're going to a full-hookup campground. We've been stranded on the Outerbanks due to road washouts and were glad we had water onboard as we waited for bridges/roads to re-open. We also were stopped for over 24 hours in a mountain pass due to a landslide and we had no turn-around possibilities....available water and toilets were nice! Also, on the road, we like having the choice of the convenience (and safety) of the full services of our 5er, if we desire, whenever we stop.

RE: RDS Aux Fuel Tank

I have the RDS 90 gal version with toolbox. Gravity feed works great. On my '06 F350, I learned you cannot leave the valve open all the time because it will cause a check engine light and code. The truck's computer sees the fuel level as full for too long while moving or ignition "on". Tech said fill tank with ignition off to avoid codes. So I open the aux valve when the truck is parked. Close the valve before cranking/moving...no more codes.

RE: Insulation question. (Sorry for long post)

I wedged 1 1/2" closed cell foam between the exposed aluminum joists and also the vertical walls between the aluminum studs. I then screwed 1/4 plywood sheets to protect the insulation from damage through use of the storage compartment. I also insulated my PEX water lines. This made a BIG difference in comfort both winter and summer and greatly reduced my LP consumption. The bedroom floor is warm. I also insulated the overhang area at the hitch and in the front storage bay. Larry

RE: We Must Be Crazy!

DC is a great trip. The Metro is a great ride. We stayed in Alexandria (not camping) and the motel shuttle went to the Metro station every 30 min. There are many varieties, good, reasonably priced food vendors in Union Station and Reagan Building. Many things to see and do at little to no cost. Things are more spread out than the tourist/NPS maps imply. One of the all day "get on/get off" mall/monuments trolley/bus may be worth the cost to you to get around to the non Metro station areas. RE: Your fire extinguisher is bad.

I have responsibility for several deluge Halon installations in the hospital where I'm the engineer. Although we're phasing out Halon due to availability and EPA reg's. We have elaborate pre-discharge warnings and abort ability on the systems because of the probablity for suffocation. The Halon replaces oxygen in the fire triangle both physically and by chemical reaction. Halon use in small or confined spaces can be deadly to the extinguisher user. We have special training for users of individual Halon extinguishers. The same can be said for CO2 extinguishers in small spaces. The CO2 can replace needed oxygen and one can suffocate. Static electrical discharge during CO2 extinguisher use can affect pacemakers and electronic devices as well. Larry

RE: RV Handyman Club

Personally, I think you have wasted your money !!
Based on my experience so far, you're correct. With the 100% satisfaction thing, I did want to draw my own conclusions based on what was offered beyond the hype. Thanks for the opinion. LS

RE: RV Handyman Club

RV Handyman Club BEWARE:
I joined because it is supposed to be 100% satisfaction or refund, to try it. I did as the invitation in Trailer Life said, went to website that offered a discount to join. On Jan 9, I filled out all info and paid with credit card.
I've heard nothing and received nothing since. They billed my credit card for full amount, not the discounted amount.
Their website contact info bounces my emails.
I called the toll free number. The rep said I was in the system and all my "stuff" had already been mailed but that she would send out my card to be sure. That was a week plus ago. Nothing.
I also complained that I was billed wrong. She promised a manager would call to correct the situation...No calls.
I believe I've been had or at best the poorest customer service I've experienced. Be Warned! Larry

RE: Towing Keystone 241FWSLS

You'll enjoy the Copper Canyon; ours has been great and trouble-free. The only thing I've done to it is get rid of the Chinese Mission tires and installed 5 Michelin XPSs. Didn't have tire problems but all the first-person stories about tread separation on the Chinese stuff was no comfort. Larry

RE: Now I'm TIRElessly confused

BFG is owned by Michelin. BFG Commercial and Michelin XPS are made in Charlotte, NC and probably other plants. As one poster said, the BFG's don't have the 3 steel plies that the XPS has. The LT's in both brands are used on all type of work trailers and RVs. I changed out my 5 new Chinese Mission ST 235/80 16E on my 5th wheel for LT 235/85 16E XPS. The Michelin XPS is a very heavy tire compared to the Chinese Missions. My XPS's are stamped Made in USA, although I've seen some marked Made in UK. The trailer tows substantially better with the XPS, also. Larry.

RE: lug nuts

I check mine before each tow and air pressure as well. When the trailer was new, it seemed that the lugs were always loosening. After several thousands miles the lugs stay at the proper torque. Anytime a tire shop or RV shop does anything to my tires or axles, I check behind the work because most places are sloppy with their torque procedures and settings.

RE: propane leave it on or off

Gasoline fumes are heavier than air. In fire safety training classes, it was demonstrated that these fumes "flow like water along the ground and according to the contour of the ground." The bigger hazard is fumes, if they ever were concentrated enough, to gather in storm water basins, gutters, or low points. Most HW ignition locations are about 4' high off the ground. Also, the POL fittings on portable tanks have free-flow check valves which stop LP flow. I had understood that LP suppliers were not supposed to fill any portable tank that does not have the new overfill/check valve. Permanent ASME tanks are different, however. I tow with LP on for the reefer and other appliances off.

RE: Auxiliary fuel tank install help

I installed a 92 gal RDS tank/toolbox from Northern and the fill kit/check valve as well. I've not experienced overfilling or spills of fuel. Both work great! I cut the neoprene flex hose that's between the metal fill and the truck tank. For diesel, the gravity kit is legal in most states and DOT as well. One caveat is that your manual fill valve should be opened only with the truck's ignition off. I left the manual valve open all the time and my check engine light came on. The truck's computer thought something was wrong since the fuel level sending unit was "full" over several hundred road miles with no drop in fuel tank quantity. (Least-wise on my Ford 350.) Larry.

RE: water heater problems...please help!!!

If you have outside faucets or an outside shower that use a mixing/blending valve, check to make sure these are tightly OFF. You're probably getting higer pressure cold water mixing into the lower pressure hot water lines and making tepid water that back-feeds into the RV system. Larry
